CARBON NEUTRAL TEXTILE 2035

Keeping global warming below 1.5 calls for radical actions. Finnish Textile & Fashion organization has launched Carbon neutral textile 2035 -commitment. It aims to support Finnish brands and manufacturers to calculate and reduce their climate impact.

Lapuan Kankurit was among one of the first companies to join the Carbon Neutral Textile 2035 Commitment. The companies are committed to strive for carbon neutrality in their operations by 2035. The commitment will be a concrete tool for textile companies to take action against climate change. It also provides regular training and advice for matters in rgarding to climate change, which is very important for SMEs in this rapidly changing world.

We started calculating our carbon footprint a few years ago. Through the calculation, we have a much better understanding of emissions and we can work actively towards carbon neutrality. The counter of Carbon Neutral Textile 2035 commitment will help us in this work. With other textile companies, we can spar each other and work together for a better tomorrow.” says Jaana Hjelt. “This spring, we are also certifying the EcoCompass Environmental Management System as part of the company's operations, which will help us in our work towards a carbon neutral textile industry. In Lapua, we are currently investing in a finishing facility, which will allow us to consider our environment in a completely new way by investing in e.g. geothermal energy and heat recovery systems."
