Lapuan Kankurit METSÄLAMPI tablecloth-blanket white-green-rainy blue

Weaving for nature, weaving for tradition. Weaving for you.

In the beginning, there was yarn. From this yarn we weave a good life, responsibly, respecting the environment. Our roots go all the way back to 1917.

We weave natural raw materials, linen and wool. We weave Nordic design, inspired by our pure nature. To balance out the chilling climate of the north, we weave heaps of warmth and softness into our textiles.

And above all else, we weave for you, dear friend. For you, we weave wonderful warmth, sweet softness, tender well-being, and a beautiful, pleasant life.

Lapuan Kankurit HALI scarf linen

Every day the sun rises a little bit higher as we move into spring season. We try to keep those remaining chills at bay by wrapping ourselves up. A soft and light linen scarf wrapped over your shoulders and around the neck does the job on spring time. Linen is incredibly comfortable, highly absorbent and fast drying. We feel it to be the perfect material for scarves. Linen scarf is also a lovely gift for Mother's Day!

The offer is valid in the Lapua Outlet, Helsinki Store and Tampere shop-in-shop as well as online during April 2024.

Lapuan Kankurit KESAKUKKA tablecloth-blanket turquoise-rose and towel-napkin lime-light blue

The new designs, METSÄLAMPI and KESÄKUKKA, are whimsical designs full of colour and joy. Akira has spent a lot of time in Finland. The gorgeous KESÄKUKKA design is a testament to Akira’s wondrously vivid imagination, featuring an imaginary flower he painted while picturing it blooming casually and happily on the edge of field in Finland.

The METSÄLAMPI design represents the Finnish landscape with its bountiful forests, mountains and bodies of water. The pattern reflects forest trees or a mountain, from which a water droplet trickles into the forest pond, forming a calming wave on the water's surface.

The products in the collection are easy-care and made from traceable 100% prewashed linen. They are woven in our own mill in Lapua, Finland.

Lapuan Kankurit AKIRA MINAGAWA

Akira Minagawa is a famous Japanese textile designer and illustrator, best known as the founder of the minä perhonen design company. Akira’s style is often described with words such as romantic, naive and imaginative. Akira himself doesn’t submit to a particular style – to him, everything starts with his own memories, which he wishes to bring to life.

"I create with the feeling that I am bringing the fantasies in my mind out of my hands and into the real world."

As soon as we picked playfulness as our theme for the coming spring, minä perhonen came to Jaana Hjelt's,the co-owner of Lapuan Kankurit, mind. "His style fits the theme perfectly with its cheery and colourful tones – it’s exactly what the world could use more of right now."

Lapuan Kankurit sources the Finnsheep wool fibre, utilized in their wool yarns, locally. The yarn made from this fibre is spun to be either natural brown or beige, and some are dyed further with natural dyes or even with "left over coffee".

WOVEN JOURNEY 1973 - 2023

It’s the 50th birthday of Lapuan Kankurit. 50 years filled with exultant joys, heart-breaking hardships, remarkable friendships, bold breakthroughs, beautiful designs – 50 years filled with more memories than a mind could possibly hold.

Our family’s journey in the world of textiles began all the way back in 1917 with Juho Annala, who founded a felt boot factory in Lapua and subsequently laid the groundwork for the founding of Lapuan Kankurit in 1973. The past is the cornerstone on which we ground our work and our mission.

Our woven journey will continue.
